Resources for Problem Gambling in Minnesota

 

 

Minnesota Problem Gambling Helpline

1-800-333-HOPE

A toll-free, 24 hour, seven day a week, confidential helpline providing information and referrals for problem/compulsive gamblers and other concerned individuals. Resources available include: treatment centers; individual practitioners; Gamblers Anonymous; Gam-Anon; financial; legal; etc. The helpline is funded by the Minnesota Department of Human Services, Mental Health Division.

 

 

Minnesota State Approved Treatment Providers

1-800-333-HOPE

State funds are available for outpatient treatment services for compulsive gamblers, their families and/or significant others. Residents who qualify will be able to have all or part of the cost of outpatient treatment paid if they meet the clinical diagnosis for compulsive gambling and demonstrate financial need. The services will be provided by counselors who meet the state's gambling specific training criteria. Call the Gambling Helpline, 1-800-333-HOPE, for information about treatment services. Call Kathleen Porter, state gambling program, 651-431-2250 for information about counselor qualifications and becoming an eligible vendor.

 

 

North American Training Institute

The North American Training Institute provides adolescent and senior citizen problem gambling prevention program information and resources. They conduct intensive training designed to provide specific knowledge and advanced professional understanding through Phase I and II Compulsive Gambling Training. This training also meets the sixty-hour State of Minnesota requirement for "fee for service reimbursement."

 

 

Gamblers Anonymous

Gamblers Anonymous (GA) is a fellowship in which people share their experiences, support, and hope in order to stop gambling. The GA program for recovery, like that of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), is based on the Twelve Steps. Gamblers Anonymous meetings take place daily throughout the state of Minnesota. There are currently 50 chapters meeting every week. Current listings of dates, times, and locations of meetings throughout the state can be obtained by calling the GA Hotline at 1-888-424-3577 or the Minnesota Problem Gambling Helpline at 1-800-333-HOPE.

 

 

Gam-Anon

Gam-Anon is a fellowship for the families or close friends who have been affected by the gambling problem. Gam-Anon helps individuals learn effective ways of coping with the gambling problem. It is based on the Twelve-Steps of Al-Anon. Current listings of dates, times, and locations of meetings throughout the state can be obtained by calling Intergroup at 1-888-435-7166 or the Minnesota Problem Gambling Helpline at 1-800-333-HOPE.
